On Saturday (September 16), several markets including the town hall market, Hatirpool Khacha Bazaar in the capital can be seen.

According to the information of the Ministry of Commerce, one kg of potatoes will be sold at the retail level for Tk 35 to Tk 36. And wholesale will be sold at 27 to 28 taka, at producer level which will be sold at 14 to 15 taka.

According to the information of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Commerce has fixed the price of potatoes per kg. But the businessmen do not care about this. The market is running according to market rules. Potatoes are being retailed at Tk 45 to Tk 48 in the capital’s town hall market.

The sellers say that they have to buy products at an increased price from the wholesale level. Then there are other incidental costs including labor and transportation costs. So potatoes cannot be sold at the price set by the government.

Similarly, the quality desi onion which is supposed to reach the consumer at 64 to 65 taka, will be sold wholesale at 52 to 53 taka. And at producer level it will be sold at 41 to 42 taka. But the retailers said that onion has to be bought at the wholesale level at the rate of 75 to 82 taka per kg.

They claim that it is not possible to sell onion at the price set by the government. Because the products have to be bought at higher prices from the wholesale and wholesale levels.

In this situation, consumers are advised to conduct operations at the production and supply level of these products to implement the fixed prices in the market. They said, conducting the campaign only at the retail level will not reduce the price. The campaign should be conducted at the wholesale and retail levels as well.

The Department of Consumer Protection has urged consumers to be patient about the impact of price fixing in the market. Magfur Rahman, the assistant director of the organization, said that the onion and potato traders say that it is not possible to sell them at the fixed price as they are bought at a higher price. New products at lower prices actually; It will be possible to sell at the price fixed by the government.
