The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has canceled the ISP licenses of 14 organizations for failing to comply with the commission’s regulations.
The organizations that had their licenses canceled are:
Access ISP
Active Broadband
BD Infotech
BizLink
CityNet
Data World
EyeNet
FirstNet
Green ISP
ICC
Innoz
IPNET
Meghna Internet
Nexus Communications
NetOne
Prothom Alo ISP
The BTRC said that the organizations had failed to meet the commission’s requirements, such as providing adequate customer service, maintaining good quality of service, and paying their dues.
The organizations have been given 15 days to appeal the decision.
The cancellation of the ISP licenses is a major blow to the organizations involved. ISPs play an important role in the country’s telecommunications sector, and their absence will leave a void that will be difficult to fill.
The BTRC’s decision is also likely to have a negative impact on consumers. With fewer ISPs in the market, consumers will have fewer choices and may have to pay higher prices for internet services.
The BTRC has said that it will take steps to ensure that the remaining ISPs provide quality service to consumers. However, it remains to be seen whether the commission will be able to do so.
