Conway scored 111 off 122 balls, while Mitchell scored 118 off 109 balls. The two put on a partnership of 180 runs for the second wicket, which was the highest partnership for New Zealand in ODIs against England.
Rachin Ravindra was the pick of the bowlers for New Zealand, taking 3 wickets for 39 runs.
The second ODI of the series will be played on Sunday, September 11 at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
